Neutrogena Healthy Skin Foundation Review

Neutrogena Healthy Skin
I’ve always been skeptical of drugstore foundations, because most of them seem to be short-lasting or oily. However, Neutrogena Healthy Skin liquid foundation is by far my FAVORITE dewy finish, everyday foundation. I’ve struggled to find a good, natural-looking, dewy foundation, but the Neutrogena foundation even competes with high-end brands. Sephora tried to tell me that the Makeup Forever HD Ultra foundation was dewy, but it was really just a slightly-less-than-matte, moveable foundation that kept me feeling oily and showed off my lovely pores (just what everyone wants, right?). I’ve heard that their old HD formula was unbelievable but the new HD Ultra has fallen flat. Neutrogena Healthy Skin feels great on your face and not heavy at all. It is a very low coverage foundation so I recommend using it for daytime use or if you are not trying to cover a lot of imperfections on your skin. It also has 20 SPF, so it is great if you are planning on being outdoors.

I have light skin with a nude undertone, which means I have both warm and cool (yellow and pink tones for you beginners) undertones to my skin. This can make it a little more difficult to find my exact color, especially when drugstore brands typically offer limited shades. I got lucky and found my perfect color in Nude #40. I tried it on by pouring a small amount onto my forearm to see how the color compared to my actual skin tone (this is the best method if you do not have a mirror to compare it to your face). I’m not really sure if you’re allowed to test the products at drugstores, so try to be a little sneaky and if you get caught…well, play dumb.

To apply this foundation, I pour a small amount onto the back of my hand and usually just use my fingertips to spread the foundation evenly on my face and lightly onto my top of my neck to blend the color. This foundation is pretty liquidy so it is easy to spread with your fingers as if using a tinted moisturizer (literally just a moisturizer with a tint for a natural, even look). If I really want a set look, I will use my Morphe M427 duo-fiber brush, or any type of foundation brush, by dipping into the liquid on the back of my hand and then pressing the brush into the skin on my face. It’s better to not use the brush in a circle or sweeping motion as this will waste a lot of the product you just placed on your skin. Instead, stamp the brush onto your skin repeatedly so that it can really absorb (this will keep it from moving around later in the day). Don’t forget to blend it down onto your neck to match the skin color so you don’t end up looking like you have some weird skin condition! Finally, set the foundation with a translucent or tinted powder. The translucent will set the foundation without changing the color, but the tinted powder will add a little different color and give your skin more full-coverage. Do this step later if you plan on adding more liquid or cream products after your foundation step.
